Preliminary Task

Task outline and real video
The Preliminary task involved reconstructing 1 minute and 20 seconds of the Britney Spears music video 'Hit me Baby (One More Time)'. Shot for shot filmed in college for two weeks, before the research from the music video project started. The entire class had to be involved in the different parts of recreating this music video in front of the camera acting (dancing and lip- syncing and behind the the lens (filming and directing).

The task involved:
  • Lip Syncing
  • Learning Dance Routine
  • Getting Costumes
  • Having Props
  • Filming different shot
This is the video from YouTube.com of the Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

Planning

For planning we needed to create a storyboard of each of the shots in the video, we did this by taking screen-shots of the Britney Spears video on YouTube and then paste it on a word document labeling the time of each shot. Also we needed to make a list of costumes and props needed for the part of the music video we created.

<<<< This are the sheets we created with the storyboard and some description at the side as in the time, what is happening and the type of shots.

Filming
For filming everyone in the class took part in the filming of the music video, filming a section each of the video. Some people filming parts of the dancing, the first scene and the sections in between in front of the lockers when lip-syncing. To film we had the song playing in the background from another room and the person filming was telling to start the music from the specific part.

Editing
For editing everyone had to be involved in producing the whole start 1 minute 20seconds , we are paired and each group go a 20 second section to edit to then be joined together. Editing involved joining and cropping the video clips and then planting them on the timeline and placing the actual sound to make the video in time, by looking at the actual video and matching the actions to the song.

Final Product

The final product is linked from the different groups come out well because the shots were almost accurate and the lip-syncing and the music synchronisation was accurate and was in time with the track.

My Contribution

Everyone in the class had to contribute in every stage of the task and I contributed in this task for the three parts of the production of the music video, some parts in front of the camera by lip-syncing in front of the lockers for two sections in between the dancing and was involved in the dancing section in the hallway and in the first part. Also I was involved in filming a part of the dancing scene in the hallway, I filmed in close-up, mid-shot and long-shot. At the start I was involved in some of the planning I was in charge of identifying the props and costumes we had to have to make the video look like the Britney Spears video.

Evaluation

Overall I think that this starter task came out well, a part of the success of this prelim task is that we had to work as a team, with different members of the team had to be in charge of roles in the production and construction of the music video, this was effective as different input and for different members of the group as the locations and the lighting.
This small task was a good indication of the process of making a music video, like the stages and some of the conventions. And for me this was important as I did not know the differences between a thriller and a music video, as in the shots, the speed and duration and an indication of how many different shots.
