How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
-Research
Music Video: In the research stage of the video I used Google to search conversions of the type of video, I found out lots of things that could be help with the developments and finally planning of the video. I researched the genres, target audience and the theories that would inspire to look on youtube at the genre that I find appealing and analyse the shots, I like to use youtube as it so simple and effective to look at a different music videos and analyse the different aspects that make it good and other aspects that make it unconventional and what effect this has on the video and genre.
Ancillary Texts: To research the example digipaks and adverts I used the internet search engines and looked at the websites where there where examples. I used prezi to mindmap the parts of the digipaks and the adverts that make the convertions and to use to plan my ancillary texts.
-Planning
Music Video: When looking for a track I first asked friends that are in bands but unfortunately I did not like the tracks and could not think of the appropriate style of music video. I selected the track looking for independent bands on Unsigned.com, the track was under indie rock genre and was easy for me to think of how to make the music video. I also used my scanner to scan the storyboard, this allowed me to have a detailed storyboard on the computer to be able to adapt and adjust.
Ancillary Texts: When planning the ancillary texts I started with relating to the examples of my genre, and then listing things I could include and use of colours. After I had a bried I idea of what to start designing, I did a mock-ups of possible layouts and came up with a good appealing layout.
-Construction
Music Video: Filming- The costruction of the video involved filming on three different days with a video camera, the new technologies that the camera has are to make the video look better, such as the adjustable white balance with is simple to use just finding a white object ot piece of paper and seeing the colour that the white object looks of the screen on the camera. The tripod was very good as it allowed me to pan the shot, and when panning the shot there could be adjustments of the speed of the pan by adjusting the resistance on the tripod.
Editing- When I edited I used Adobe CS4 Premiere Pro, to sort out the the clips and the legnths of the shots. I used effects to produce differents styles to my video and to adjust the look of the video. I liked using Premire Pro as it was simple to get the hang on using the software and prom previous project last year I have been developing the skill and effects that would be appropriate and effective also how to adjust the strength and time scale.
Ancillary texts: Taking pictures with a high resolution Cannon D60, I used the pictures in the Digipak for the picture in the front cover and for the page with photos. I used the camera with a wide angle length and manual focus, with manual focus I could adjust the area of focus to allow the viewer to enjoy the pictures. I have used software to create the ancillary texts mostly Adobe Fireworks, I like to software a it is simple to use but it allows to have simple editing to the text and pictures, the corrections from the draft and the final was simple as with the file type it saves it as the separate layers. I like using fireworks as it is simple to use and I have been using it for years, I like the use of text and changing sizes of elements and the colouring, it is easy to check if the colours go together and and the text can be read if it was on a magazine.

Creating Digipak and Advert
I have used Adobe Firework to create the Digipak and the Advert, Fireworks is a good and simple software to use as there can be image transformation is side in cuting and changing the brightness and contrast.
Cutting
Cutting is important to have the images a right size and the pictures are cut away from the background.

Video Draft
Feedback:
Teacher:
- Video doen't hold together.
- Include Band Footage (To include cutaways)
- Shoot in other locations other an school
- Colour seems odd (jumper and grass makes it look too green)
- Singers are confident but the mise-en-scene is weak and lipsyncing is out. Make singers take it more seriously and not giggling. Make them sing so it looks like a performance.
- Too much walking round fields
- 1:25 - Unclear have zoomed too far
- 1:29 Blinds are open letting in light behind the singers.
Initial Footage Editing
How I edited the footage:
Extract Effect :
For the first and last shots of the guilar being played I used an effect where the shots are black and white.
Cross Zoom Transition:

Cross Zoom Transition:
Why I used this trasition to give a good affect when swapping of shots of the guitar.
Brightness and Contrast:
changing the brightness and contrast of my shots from outside. I wanted to do this to make the black be darker and parks of the light parts to be lighter.

Footage Filming
First - When I was going film the locations that I wanted to film where not arranged and I had to improvice the scenes that could be included in the final video and filmed and later film the rest that will go inbetween like the performance with a black background person singing with a spotlight.
The actual filming of the scenes went fine as there was good light and some sun to add some glare to the camera and the actor was willing to do everything required.
Second - The filming outside with the two actors, went well but it was quite late and there was not much light and getting dark.
I filmed in my bedroom and set up a live performance stage look by adding green lighting, microphone and guitar. It went well but there was not a lot of time to film, I still managed to get most of the shots that I wanted.

Mock-up of advert
- Layout - The layout of my advert will be simple and visually apealing by the use of colour and information.
- Colour - I have desided to make the theme colours for my advert light blue and pale yellow.
- Image - I will have pictures of the filming and a image of front of the digipak.
- Font - The digipak will have readable font, as I want the audience to have a good understanding of the name of the band, the album and the information about digipak.
Including:
- Name of Band and album
- Digipak front cover
- Digipak information
- Release date
- Buying locations

Camera angle positions for performance video
- This is a birdseye view plan for my room, the location for the start of the video and the performance intersectons.
- This plan shows the placements of the performer, props and initial camera position.
Actor 2 at the top of the plan is holding a acustic guitar and Actor 1 is infront of a microphone.
The Camera position is an indication of where I am going to film from but the positioning is changing after each take of performance.
Low Angles: Low angles are going to be used in the video as this gives the video have a dynamic edge and low angles give the performers dominance over the scene.
High Angles: High angles are going to be used to used occasionally in the video this gives an effect to the audience to have alternate shots, this netralises the shots between low and high.
Pan: Pans are not going to be used too much in this video as its not common in music videos but in indie video used a bit.
Close-ups: Close-ups of the lead performer is going to be used as he is lip-sincing and moving his head.
Long-shots: Used in indie videos but in the perforamnce scene of my video will not be used for too long in the video but changing with mid-shots and back would be a good effect seen in many music videos

Costume planning
-
The bands costumes are common for a indie band as it is smart and casual. The effect is to show there it is a professional band, that know how to perform live. The costumes create a effect of changing the scenes as the other actor and the band.
-
The person that is in the main parts of the video will be wearing a hoodie, jeans and trainers, this is common wear for teenagers and young adults. The effect I want to create is a sense of loneliness and show that the performer is acually thinking about things. The use of the casual wear also seperates from the band.
Actor / Performer decisions
I will have 2 actors each doing something different
Actor 1- Tom H is going to walk through a field, lip syncing a bit.
Actor 1- Singing/ Lip-syncing
Actors 2- Joe Mayo is going to play the acustic guitar/ also lip sincing in parts
- The actor have to know the lyrics and know how to perform.

Magazine research
Seasick Steve Advert
The image use for the background is of the artist. singer in black and white. The image has him wearing his traditional American western look.
Font
The main font for the title name of the band is made to look like it is written in yellow crayon as for the rugged feel to the artist. The colour of the font is a contrast to the black and wite image at the back.
Layout
Layout
The layout for the advert is the artist name at the , album title below the artist name in maller text and the release date in smaller font below that.
Content
The advert has a picture of the album cover for Seasick Steve's album, this is to sell the advert and let the audience know what the album looks like so they can buy at
Image
The image used for the background is a syloette of the singer in the band, this is to show the colours of the lights on the background also this is the image used for the album cover on the DVDs.
Font
The font of the album title is large bold standard but is is twisted to the side, the font is white contrasting to the dark background, the band name is smaller at the top but is as important as the album title but the larger text is what the advert is indicationg the reader to purchase. The smaller text below the album title is less important and when you see the image and the main title, the reader will be interested in reading the rest of the information and if they continue to be interested they will consider buying the album.
Layout
The layout is simple by having the band's name and title of the album in the middle, below that is the information about the album and product of the album as the different types of sales and prices. As there could be just the tracks or the video of the performance.
Content
This magazine advert contains the information of the different types of products they can purchase the album on, the release date and minor information. This is good at there is minimal information and more important the use of colours and images.
Research into digital covers
The Prezi (below) includes some information of what DigiPaks are, also 3 examples of professional industry DigiPaks from different bands/artists.
Research into video directors
Harold 'Hype' Williams
Hype Williams take the idea from 'Enter The Void' to add text of different fonts and colours in between the filmed sections with some lyrics from the song. It features strobe-lit images of Rihanna, Kanye West and Kid Cudi.
Spike Jonze
This video was made for the single for Arcade Fire and features children riding their bicycles down a suburban area.
Background:
- American music video and film director of African-American and Honduran descent. His nickname "Hype" comes from his hyperactive nature as a child.
- Williams first displayed his work by tagging local billboards, storefronts, and playgrounds using HYPE as his graffiti tag. "That's probably what stimulated my interests in color," he says. "I wanted to be Basquiat or Keith Haring of the streets."
Some of the music videos he has made:
Coldplay's music video shows the band performing against a blurry, warped version of Eugène Delacroix's painting La Liberté guidant le peuple.

Spike Jonze
Background:
- American director, producer and actor, whose work includes music videos, commercials, film and television.
- He is best known for his collaborations with writer Charlie Kaufman, which include the 1999 film Being John Malkovich and the 2002 film Adaptation, and for his work as director of the 2009 film Where the Wild Things Are.
Some of the music videos he has made:
- This is Spikes most resent music video featuring Jay-z and Kanye West, the setting is a factory or a warehouse, were they are taking apart a car and switching the inside, so that the front is the back and the back is the front. The are some cross-cutting between Both of the singers in front of a blue metal wall with an American flag on it and the car when being modified and then driven by the singers.
Research into real videos
Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?
Camerawork:
The use of the camera is varied in shot types and angles as there is close-up when the band and children are singing, Mid-shots of the people and the scenery and the location. At the start of the video it starts on a close-up as a child running with a piece of paper with a question mark (?) on it, the shots starts with a close-up and gradually the shot get further away and the tracking camera shows children running with the papers down the street. (Below)
Editing:
There are quick changes of shots for the mayoralty of the song but where there are faster pace parts of the song the changes are quicker. There is some cross-cutting between long-shots, Mid-shots and close-ups of different parts of this video. (Below) with the third image of cutting back in to the truck.
Star Image:
Richard Dyers notation of ''a star is an image constructed from raw materials'' I think that The Black Eyed Peas are stars of raw materials because of they fame is had from their songs and relationship with the fans of their music. This music video represents their star image by show the lead sings in curtain part of the song when lip-sincing would be requires in the beginning and parts were the sings have not appears in a period of time or they part which they start singing commences. Each of the members of the group is shown in this music video in different stage as a close up but in some shots they are shown all together.
(Left) On some parts of this video the whole group appear together in what looks like a housing area.
Performance and Narrative:
The performance and narrative of this this video is based around the lyrics and the title of the song, questioning the public where the love is. The video shows shows of children singing and looking sad. (Below)
Camerawork:
The camera work in this music video was good as there where lots of different shots and after the opening few second the shot lengths got reduce and quicker flow looking cuts.
It looked like there was a green screen used as there where some differences in the focus and camera focus, but it could be a rustic feel to the video as a editing decision. Overall the video background is well filmed.
Editing:
The editing helped as there where short length shots and they gelled together very well, as some were different angles of the same person.
Star Image:
The start image is apparent in this video as the band appears in the whole video, mainly the lead singer which could be referred as protagonist of this video because of the lip-syncing parts.
Narrative and Performance:
The narrative in this song it well performed as there is suggestions of the lyrics of the song meaning of the visuals.
Panic At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies
Panic At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies
Camerawork:
The high tempo of the song allows quick shots and angles that would not be associated with other genres of music videos.
Editing:
I think the editing was well made as syncing to the song with the filming and the order of the visuals was good making the filming look.
Star Image:
The lead singer is the most apparent star in this music video as he takes up most of the video time and the other members of the band appear less often.
Performance and Narrative:
Performance and Narrative:
The performance on this video is lip syncing by the lead singer and dancing. The video is set in a wedding and there are dancing after the traditional wedding scene.
